Medieval Ring with Phoenix Bird, Circa 13en-15en Century AD

A lead ring with decorated bands and hexagonal bezel engraved with a Phoenix bird with open wings ; 20 mm internal diameter, 21.70 outer diameter, 3.10 grams.Acquired from a EU collector in London, originally acquired on the EU art market around 2000s. The phoenix is a legendary originally Egyptian and later Ancient Greek bird who dies and is reborn from flames. As well as Greek mythology, several similar species exist throughout folklore around the world. It?s associated with the sun and rebirth and is therefore an important symbol of the circle of life and regeneration. Because of this, it is often used as a symbol in Christian allegories as well. From the Middle Ages onward, phoenixes were used in the crests and shields of British nobles.
