Lot 108:
Roman Silver Phallic 1st Century AD
Silver phallic pendant with stylised anatomical detailing; integral suspension loop; 23mm, 4.45 grams. Acquired on the EU art market before 2000. Property of a Surrey, UK, collector.Phallic objects were worn as good-luck charms with amuletic properties. They appear to have been particularly associated with the military and their distribution in some counties, like Suffolk, shows a bias towards sites with military phases or retired military residents, for example Londinium.
