Byzantine Reliquary Cross Pendant 10th -12th Century AD
A large bronze enkolpion reliquary cross pendant comprising two narrow hinged plates and an articulated suspension loop with vertical rib; obverse with engraved image of Jesus with inscription above his head ; reverse with five cells -possibly heald a stones originally. Cf. Wamser, L., Die Welt von Byzanz – Europas ?stliches Erbe, M?nchen, 2004. 50 grams, 8.8cm . Property of a Surrey gentleman; acquired in the EU art market in the 2000s.
