Medieval Bronze Bottony Cross Pendant 12th,13en Century AD
A bronze cross pendant with suspension loop ; 4.48 grams, 34 mm length. Property of a gentleman; acquired in the late 1960s-early 1970s on the Austrian art market from a private collector. the collection formed in the late 1980s.Fine condition, loop intact, wearable. The Bottony Cross has close affinity with heraldry and ecclesiastical use especially from the Middle Ages. The word ?bottony? is derived from a French word for button, referring to the bud-like ends of the cross. This cross is often linked to the Trinity due to its trefoil ends.
