A substantial bronze-gilded crossbow brooch with three onion-shaped knops to the head plate, deep bow, trapezoidal footplate with chamfered edges and raised panels with incised annulets, hinged pin to the reverse. Cf. Hattatt, R., Brooches of Antiquity, Oxford, 1987, item 1267. 66.90 grams, 84mm length. From the private collection of USA gentleman, acquired on the UK art market around 2000s.
