Roman or Later Silver Whistle
Cylindrical body with solid silver wall. With eyelet at the rear end. Excellent preservation. Length 48mm. Diameter of the cylinder 12.5mm, 14.93 gr; Cf. A. Appels – S. Laycock, Roman Buckles & Military Fittings (2007) p. 146, fig. AA15.41. Excavations at legionary camps suggest a military use of the types of whistles found there. From a private collector living in UK. Acquired on the German art market in the 1990s.
