Ancient Roman Bronze Brooch ROMA or PRIMA, Circa 1st, 2nd Century AD
Bronze fibula (brooch) of a circular form with an openwork design featuring the letters ROMA 9for the city and goddess of Rome) or PRIMA (for first and the best performing cohort in the Legio) , with the R, M, and A circumscribed by the O. The back has an extended arm with the pin intact. Dark green patina; 35 mm, 12.50 grams.
Currently acquired from a US collector, previously purchased on the German Art market prior 2000s.
