Roman Bronze Ring with Eros on a Lion, Circa End of 1st, 2rd Century AD

A bronze seal ring with interesting mythological scene of Cupid riding a lion ; 5.54 grams, 19.85mm max outer diameter, 17.25mm max inner diameter. Very fine condition. From the collection of EU gentleman living in London. Acquired on the German art market in the 2000s. FOOTNOTE: Also frequently depicted riding on a lion, dolphin, or eagle, or seated in a chariot drawn by stags or wild boars, undoubtedly emblematical of the power of love as the subduer of all nature, even of the wild animals. In Rome, Eros was worshipped under the name of Amor or Cupid.
